Quartet
For open instrumentation
Quartet, for open instrumentation, explores ensemble interaction through ideas such as process, imitation, and action-reaction. Looking to establish a balance between performer agency and interaction, the score grants participants freedom as much as it conditions their individual actions to those of other players. Participants must listen carefully and be ready to act at all times, or they may choose to remain silent, leaving space for others to be heard. The music is a result of the relationships between sounds which, emerging as individual ideas, are developed collectively.
