Solo

For sopranino saxophone

Solo, for sopranino saxophone, aims to create a balance between specificity and indeterminacy. This is expressed through the use of staff notation in combination with text instructions and graphic notation.

Three distinct languages, or sound worlds, are present and given the same relevance throughout: modality, noise, and improvisation. A coherent and cohesive discourse is attempted by using them alternatingly, creating points of grounding and disjunction, developing ideas, and the eventual blend of the separate languages into a complex sound vocabulary reflective of certain current practices in contemporary music.
